Susanne Hackett

Susanne Hackett holds a Ph.D. in Latin American Studies from Tulane University and currently serves as staff and instructor at the Tulane Center for Public Service. Her research centers on Cuba, African Diaspora religions, music and dance, and visual language. Her dissertation “The Yoruba in the Construction of Cuban Revolutionary Nationalism,” directed by Dr. Ana M. López, examines the role played by Afro-Cuban religious myths called patakíes in the Cuban imaginary, arguing for a re-centering and privileging of African-derived philosophical frameworks within Cuban Revolutionary intellectual history.
