  • Gayle Williams (Florida International University), Latin American and Caribbean Screenplays in Print: An annotated Bibliography

This bibliography represents an overlooked resource in Latin American and Caribbean cinema studies, the screenplay. Most titles are commercially published monographs of screenplays that often include valuable supplementary material (for example, commentary on making of the film, film stills, technical credits) but the bibliography includes actual shooting scripts held in US libraries. Another intriguing feature of the bibliography is that roughly one third of the published titles are unfilmed screenplays. In some cases, the reason for their publication is obvious if representing the posthumously published work of a director or screenplay author. Other titles do not give up the secret of their appearance in print so readily and may lend themselves to a film scholar’s new project. Overall, this bibliography contributes to the study of screenplays as textual artifacts, and may identify works of interest.
