Ted A. Henken

Ted A. Henken is a Professor in the Sociology and Anthropology Department at Baruch College, CUNY. He holds a Ph.D. in Latin American Studies from Tulane University. He has researched and published broadly on the topic of contemporary Cuban culture and society, focusing on the impact independent actors and movements have had in the areas of entrepreneurship and digital media. He is currently finishing a book that chronicles the 40-year history of independent journalism in Cuba and in exile: Independent Cuban Journalism: Biography of a Movement (University of Florida Press). He is the former President of the Association for the Study of the Cuban Economy and has written the “Freedom on the Net” annual report on Cuba for Freedom House for the last decade.
